2026 – At the Brussels Conference, international trade unions expressed their support for Sami Adouani

The trade union organisations, gathered in Brussels on 22 and 23 April 2026 for an international conference on dialogue regarding the regularisation of undocumented workers in Europe, express their full solidarity with our Tunisian comrade Sami Adouani, who was prevented from attending the conference due to an investigation by the Tunisian authorities into his involvement and responsibilities within an economic and social rights organisation in Tunisia.

The restriction of his freedom of movement is a cause for concern for all organisations participating in the conference. We express our full solidarity with him and will remain vigilant regarding the outcome of this situation.

We have no doubt whatsoever regarding the integrity of our colleague Sami Adouani, given his track record and his long history of commitment to the international trade union movement. We have complete confidence in him and have no doubt that the integrity and ethics he has demonstrated over the years also apply to his role and commitments within the activist NGO where he volunteers.

We will act with due diligence in this situation to ensure that the ongoing legal process enables him to fully regain his rights.
